Learn About Hueneme
The name “Hueneme” is derived from a Chumash Indian word meaning “half way” or “resting place,” and is pronounced Y NEE MEE. Our district serves families in Port Hueneme and Oxnard, including the unincorporated Silver Strand and Channel Islands Harbor neighborhoods.
HESD educates approximately 8,100 kindergarten through eighth grade students in nine elementary schools and two junior high schools. We have a close relationship with Naval Base Ventura County and we work hard to meet the needs of our military families.
The current ethnic make-up of students in our district is 80 percent Hispanic, 8.6 percent Caucasian, 5.3 percent Filipino, 2.9 percent African American, .05 percent Asian, .06 percent Pacific Islander, and .3 percent American Indian. Approximately 51.8 percent of our students are limited English-speaking or non-English speaking.
The Hueneme Board of Education is pleased to be able to offer our teachers one of the best salary and benefits packages offered to any teacher in Ventura County. Our teachers are working hard to improve the performance of our students and their efforts are paying off. Our students’ standardized test scores improve each year.
We invite you to visit our schools to see first-hand the good work being done by the employees of the Hueneme Elementary School District.
The District's Fraud Hotline
Acts of fraud against the Hueneme Elementary School District are expensive. In addition, the actions of perpetrators of fraud often create a hostile and/or fearful environment for others. Anyone who witnesses a fraudulent act against the District is encouraged to report it, using the District’s Fraud Hotline. Reports may be called in to (805) 253-3191. All reports will be investigated. The reporter’s identity will be kept confidential and, in fact, any person who reports a fraudulent act may remain anonymous. Welcome
Welcome to the Hueneme Elementary School District!

In 2013, the California Legislature developed a new funding formula for its public schools. To receive the new funding, each school district had to create a Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) for the 2014/15 school year. Each year thereafter, school districts must revise the LCAP plan to meet the always evolving needs of their students.

The planning process for an update requires that we encourage input from parents and our community. We have had a great deal of input from our parents, staff, and others who are interested in a quality education for all, and we considered all suggestions as we developed the 2015/16 revision to our LCAP. Listed below are a few of the new services provided for in the Hueneme Elementary School District’s LCAP:

1. Reduced class size for grades TK-3

2. School counselors at every school to help students and parents

3. Academic intervention teachers at all elementary schools to provide targeted, intensive instruction designed to accelerate learning for struggling students

4. English language support teachers to help students who are learning English as a second language

5. Elementary school music teachers

6. An elementary K-5 physical education teacher

7. Assistant principals at ten of our eleven schools to support principals and teachers in their work and provide additional security on campus

If you have any questions about the services available to you and your children, please contact your local school principal.

Sincerely,
Dr. Jerry Dannenberg
Superintendent

SchoolBlocks offers a unique and powerful personalized search system. A member of the public, searching for "homework" might see an announcement from the school as the first result. However, if the user is logged in, they would see their teacher’s latest homework assignment as the top result.
