Your children and our teachers have been working very hard to master the new Ca Standards in core subjects such as Reading/Language Arts, Mathematics, and English Language Development this school year. You will get a report of your child’s progress towards mastery during Parent Conferences beginning Nov. 30th through December 11th. Please remember that we will have early dismissal during Parent Conferences. The school library will remain open until 2:30 p.m. (early dismissal from the library is at 2:00 if you want to pick up your child early)
With the new math adoption along with the recent arrival of our results from last year’s grade 3 through 6 state testing, our staff has been busy learning how to best meet the needs of our students. This is the first year we have received results from the California Assessment for Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) therefore this is the baseline year for all schools.
If your child is currently in 4th-5th grade they received a report with their test results in the mail. If you need help with the report please bring it to the office and we will be glad to assist you.
Tutoring and Homework Help:
Tutoring and homework help will begin in November. More information will be sent home from your child’s teacher. Please make sure you read the information and ask for help if your child needs additional support with their classwork. Each grade level will have homework help or tutoring. This help will be offered after school is dismissed, twice a week.
Also remember that on a daily basis the library is opened before and after school so that students can practice their reading. The computer lab is also opened from 7:30 to 8:00 am on a daily basis so that students can access a variety of programs such as AR. A teacher is in the lab to help students with homework if they need it.
Hooray for our Larsen Families! The Larsen PTA just completed a very successful Membership Drive, thanks to all your support. It’s not too late to join. Contact the office for information. We will be having a variety of fundraisers throughout the school year. The proceeds from our fundraisers help your children with a number of learning necessities including technology, field trips, assemblies, and playground equipment. Your PTA Board is planning many exciting events, including Santa’s Workshop, the Winter Program, and McTeachers Night. You are welcome to join us and participate in your child’s PTA. The board normally meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 3:00pm in the teacher’s lounge. Our next meeting is November 3rd at 3pm. We look forward to your input as we make plans to help our kids.
Please remember to send your Box Tops for Education to your child's classroom. You can clip them from many food items, such as Ziploc Bags, cereal boxes, food items and more. Every Box Top collected brings in 10 cents for Larsen School. You can visit www.boxtops4education.com to find out more ways to earn, and enroll our school. When you register through their website you can access Bonus Box Tops, special offers, coupons and more.
