5:30 PM - 9:00 PM Board Meeting
Principal’s Message – Dr. Torres
Our school’s Spelling BEE Winner was Carla Jimarez Alyisha Ayala Second Place, Nikki Sincero Third Place (tied) with Ian Suelter-Davison. Carla will represent our school at the County Spelling Bee on March 8 at Cal State Channel Islands University. Congratulations!
I want to remind you that the safety of our students is very important. Please remember, that in the drop off circles, particularly the circle at the back of the school, along the alley and in the front of the school- these are areas with a high traffic volume and we need your cooperation to help the flow of traffic and to ensure that students are safe in school. Therefore, please remind students to exit the vehicle anywhere on the yellow zone of the circles. Please do not wait until your vehicle is at the front of the school entrance, that slows traffic and vehicles end up backing up to the street. Please also do not park on the drop off circles. If you need to park because you do not see your child, do so in the street. We are fortunate to have the volunteer services of Mr. Robert Ybarra, but not so in the back of the school.
I thank you for your attention to this matter, in the name of the Larsen students.
Tardiness and Absences
Good school attendance is extremely important for the success of the student. Please make sure that every effort is made to ensure that your child arrives to school on time and misses only when absolutely necessary. If your child is late to school or needs to miss due to an illness or a medical appointment please make sure you call the school at 986-8740.
Some of you have received a letter of notification for excessive tardiness and/or absences. Another letter will be going out soon. Remember that having 9 unexcused absences or tardiness may result in fines of up to $240 per day. My goal is that we don’t have to send any!
Thank you for working with us.
NEWS FROM THE PTA- Tom MacNish, President
We have several projects taking place in February. Until Feb 13 we will be collecting Pennies for Patients for Leukemia and Lymphoma patients. This is a service project and we have received a plaque for being the 4thtop school in Ventura County for last year.
We are also collecting BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION- If you eat General Mills and other products that have the $.10 box tops on the packaging, you can be supporting the Larsen School students! Just cut off and save the small box tops and keep them in a baggie. When you have accumulated a number of them, bring them to the office at school. The Box tops program gives our school over $100s every year! We encourage you to become involved in PTA and come to our meetings; your input is very valuable to us. Our meetings are on the first Tuesday of each month at 2:30 p.m. in the Staff lounge. The next PTA Meeting will be Feb. 4, 2014. JOIN US!
Get involved and support our school. JOIN PTA!
In February, we are focusing on the character pillar of Respect. Please spend time talking and writing about Every Day Heroes in our lives that exemplify the pillar of Respect. Students “caught” demonstrating a character counts pillar will get a “Gotcha” slip, and will be entered in a school raffle.
Reminder, that for the A.R. program our students must be taking their tests online. That means our students can take tests on any book that A.R. Online has a test on. Thank you for your support.
We would like to encourage students to read. In order to promote the love for reading we are starting school-wide events. Here are the events that are coming up:
