To ensure student safety please review these playground rules.  There are teachers or noon supervisors on duty who can help any student who is having problems or is unsure of the rules.

The school playground is a place for recreation and enjoyment.  Many a life’s lesson is learned on the school playground, especially about working and getting along with others, sportsmanship, honestly, courtesy, etc.  The playground and fields are safe, orderly places where children can interact positively with each other in a cooperative spirit.  To ensure this the following rules are in place:

  • All games are open.  This means that all students may participate in any game any time.  No one may be excluded from any game.
  • Deliberate interference with games is not permitted.
  • Every game has rules.  Students may not change the rules of any game at any time.
  • Games that involve tackling, wrestling, pushing, etc. are not permitted.
  • Martial Arts (or pretend martial arts), including karate, etc. are not permitted.
  • Balls are not to be bounced against the walls of the school, including the portables.
  • Play only in the designated areas.  Do not play in or near the restrooms, hallways or classes that are in session.
  • Students in grades 1-3 should play on the blacktop area near rooms 16 – 18.  Students in grades 4-6 should play on the blacktop area near rooms 11-15.  These areas are designated by the bright yellow line.
  • Students must use bathrooms designated for their grade level.  Grades 1-3 should use the bathroom next to room 16, grades 4-6 should use the restrooms near room 11.
  • No toys brought from home are allowed on the playground without prior approval from a staff member.  This includes all forms of balls.  Footballs are not allowed at school, unless a teacher has organized a touch football game during P.E.
  • Fighting, such as tackling, pushing, tripping, etc., or other forms of physical contact are not permitted.
  • Students may not throw sand, dirt, or objects at other students.
  • Swearing or using foul language is not permitted.
  • When playing on the swings, students count to 25 then take their turn.
  • Students may not play kick back.
  • One person at a time on the slide.
  • Students are to walk on the blacktop and may run only in the field.
  • No more than three students at a time on the “whirly twirls.”  One foot must remain on equipment at all times.
