Parking Lot Safety and Your Responsibility

parking  Bard, like many schools, has limited parking for staff and parents.  For your convenience and for the safety of the students we have designated areas that are for dropping off (unloading) your students in the morning and picking them up (loading) in the afternoon. Please do not park and wait except in designated parking spots.  If your student is not waiting at the front of the school circle around or park in the back. Parents who stop and wait in loading areas are causing traffic problems as well as angry feelings among others who are trying to flow through as the area was designed.
Please be a good neighbor and do not park at the Post Office as they have limited parking as well!
  • The front of the school has an area for the bus (red curb) and for loading or unloading students (white curb). There is no parking in the front of the schoolThe Port Hueneme police may cite vehicles that are illegally parked in these areas.

  • The front gate is for bus students and students walking with adults only.  All other students should use the East gate (by the outdoor stage), the side gate (by the bike rack) or the back gates (by the parking lot).  This helps keep the traffic flow safe and avoids having traffic back up in the street when parents stop at the front gate.  Please do not stop at the front gate of the drive-through area.

  • During the school day all gates except the front gate are locked.  After school the gate by the back of the cafeteria now remains locked and students walking that way must exit at the new gate by the bike rack. This is to help avoid foot traffic through the busy parking lot.

  •   If you must exit your vehicle to go on campus for any reason you must use a designated parking spot. These are located behind the school.  The back parking lot area of the school can be reached by driving between the Boy's and Girl's Club and the school, veer left to our parking lot.  There are marked spaces for parking, and an area that is marked with white lines for loading and unloading students.  Please do not park in the pick-up/drop-off areas as it causes an unsafe back up of traffic and poses a danger for our students who are forced to cross between traffic to get to the gate or to their cars.

  •  The area on the front, side of the school is reserved parking for school staff and for the Boy's and Girl's Club employees.  Please do not park in these reserved spots.

  •  Some the parking behind the Boy's and Girl's Club is open but please do not drop your student there and have them walk alone across the parking lot as this has caused safety concerns in the past.  Drivers may be rushed and/or their vision impaired by the glare of the sun.

  •  Do not park in areas posted as "no parking". The Port Hueneme police may cite violators in our parking lot.

The following reminder may be placed on your windshield if you are parking in an area that is not designated for parking.  Please consider not only your own convenience but the safety and convenience of all of our students and parents.

For the safety of our students please do not leave your vehicle in a pick-up / drop off area.  If you need to park and go on campus use the marked parking spaces behind the school.  Students should exit the car safely at the curb.  Wait time should be limited. Look for cars or pedestrians before driving away from the curb. Please be patient and courteous to other drivers and keep our school safe for all pedestrians.

From the CA DMV Handbook (http://dmv.ca.gov/pubs/hdbk/parking.htm) :

Painted colored curbs have the following special parking rules:

Red – No stopping, standing, or parking. (Buses may stop at a red zone marked for buses.)

Asegure ver si hay otros coches o peatones antes de seguir en su auto. Favor de ser paciente y cortés con otros conductores y de mantener segura nuestra escuela para todo peatón.
