Child Find is the process of locating, identifying, and evaluating all children, ages zero through 21, suspected of having a disability, who may be in need of special education services. This includes locating children who are not in school, as well as, those who are in school, either public or private, but not receiving special education services.
A referral may be made by a parent or by any person concerned about a child. If you have or know of a child who you suspect has a disability, please contact the Hueneme School District Pupil Support Services office. Parent agreement and involvement is obtained prior to any action. All information about the child and family is kept strictly confidential and privacy rights are protected.

Nurses and Student Health
The district has three credentialed school nurses who oversee the health needs of the students. They provide medical assistance and training/collaboration with staff and parents regarding the medical needs of students.
Special Education Options
In the Hueneme Elementary School District, there is a continuum of special education options available to students identified as individuals with special needs. At each school, Speech and Language Therapy services and Resource Specialist services are available to the students. Additional services, such as Occupational Therapy, Adapted P.E., Orientation and Mobility, and Visually Handicapped Services, are available to students when such services are deemed necessary. There are special classes for children with mild to moderate disabilities on most campuses. In some cases, students attend classes outside of Hueneme School District in order to access the most appropriate special education services. Program placement and services are determined by the Individual Education Program for each student. For more information, please contact the Pupil Support Services office, 805-488-3588, ext. 9243.
